Hmm, not been very good at keeping up a blog have I? I will be back soon with pictures and everything!

Dug beds 2-4

After a couple of cold, cold weeks of hard frosts and temperatures of as low as -7 here I took advantage of a rare non-frosty day to do a spot of digging and mucking. I managed to dig half of bed 1 (where the squashes had failed to thrive last year), dig and muck half of bed 2 where the french beans had been, hoe and weed bed 3 where my savoy and spring cabbages and japanese onions are still slowly growing, and in bed 4 dig up the last of my turnips and dig and muck everywhere except around the few beetroot and kohl rabi still left in. I did some minor repairs of the raised beds which are only temporarly and made from old fence panels, but it certainly looks tidier now. The cabbages in bed 7 are looking a bit sad but I'll give them until spring to see if they spring into life.

I still have the bulk of the digging to do of the so-far unused beds - 5, 9 ,10 ,11 and the whole of the end area where my trees are going to be. I am going to put sprouts, jerusalem artichokes, PSB, carrots, parsnips and asparagus down there, as well as the trees, but haven't even marked out the beds yet. So much to do, so little time! Sigh..........

Seeds sown in conservatory

I've got the heated propogator set up in the conservatory and now have seeds in for:

Cauliflower
Romanesco
Leek
Alpine strawberry
Coriander

In the unheated propogators I have:

Onion
Peas

Can't wait for spring!

Raspberry canes in

Just a few days before Christmas I eventually found a fairly nice day and got my raspberry canes in. Ten in total of Autumn Bliss. I dug in some good well rotted horse muck and a sprinkling of blood and bone too so that should get them off to a good start in the new year.

I had a plan.....

I had a plan yesterday. I was going to spend the full day at the lottie digging, hoeing, planting raspberry canes, mucking the beds with the bags of rotted horse muck dad gave me. And the plan got scuppered because I woke up with a dodgy pelvis so couldn't do anything. So, today I thought I might go and do a few light jobs, maybe a bit of hoeing. I got up, looked out of the windor, and LO! two inches of snow everywhere! I am simply not destined to get to the lottie this week.....

Allotment plan November '08

This is my plan so far .... and rather a nice plan it is too! The things which are in and growing, are in black, and the things I plan to put in are in pencil. I'm sure there'll be many changes in the months to come, but at least I have a vague plan.
